Children put stuff in their ears

If you want the quick answer to how I solved this, scroll to the bottom.

I remember a traumatic day when my son woke me from name with
"Mom...MOM!!! ... (something something)... is stuck in my ear!
Yes I was frustrated and as i took him into the bathroom to have a closer look. There was indeed something in there.

At first i thought it was a giant candy Nerd. So I got the tweezers hoping to get it out that way, and of course it just sunk back further. I tried a bobby pin and a couple other things to try to retrieve it, which only made them fall back further.

I used some common sense and called the Pediatrician's office.
The nurse told me that unless it was just right there, then they wouldn't be able to get it out, and that we would need to call the Ear Nose and Throat Doctor to remove it, and if that couldn't be done, then we would have to have it SURGICALLY REMOVED!
I was in a lot of panic by that point.

I knew it was "right there" because by this point I could not longer see the then suspected candy nerd.

I flashed back to a time in my childhood when i set a tic tac on the outside of a friends ear. She reached to grab it, and it went right inside, and as we tried to grab it, it just wen further. My mother was clever and said, well if it doesn't come out with some tweezers, we will just have to melt it out. ( I later asked my mother what she meant, but she couldn't remember the incident)

Okay, so I am thinking, yes it's candy, it disintegrates in water, melt it out, (though I don't think it's a good idea to pump and ear full of water) So i decided to use the steam from a warm tub to somehow do that.
I laid my son in a very shallow bit of water in the tub with the warmest I would would be safe for him, with the ear in the water after some time, I checked ear, and I would see the object again. My hypothesis would be that the humidity and steam made the ear wax watery, and worked with gravity to pull the object back out of where it had hidden. (Remember this was so far, I couldn't see it anymore).

I used a bobby pin, and pulled out something! I was terrible confused because it didn't not resemble a candy nerd. It looked like oatmeal. OATMEAL?!  Was this a bonus? Was the candy still in there? After a little more dialogue with my four year old, and peeking into the family room, there was some granola he had been snacking on.

 Hallelujah!

 It was out!

And no surgery needed!

And no side effects to report

QUICK ANSWER:
So if your kid sticks something so far down their ears, that you can't grab it, try laying them in a puddle of warm warm water for 10-20 (guesstimate), tortured ear down. Then check to see if gravity worked with earwax, and use a bobby pin. (Though I must say this is NOT recommended by your doctor I am sure!) Do at your own risk.
But in this instance on this day, it worked for us.

Also, there might have been a time when I used a NoseFrida to suck out the object (Which is not intended for an ear, and I don't know if it is safe, I just tried it.)
